The City - Adilabad

The district was situated between 77.46' and 80.01' ,of the eastern longitudes and 18.40' and 19.56', of northern latitudes.The district is bounded on north by Yeotmal and Chanda district of Maharastra, on the east by Chanda district, on the south by Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts and on the west by Nanded district of Maharastra State.

The district derives its name from Adilabad,its headquarters town which was named after the ruler of Bijapur, Ali Adil Shah.This district was earlier called as Ethlabad. This district was formed in the year 1905. The Adilabad district is bounded by Maharastra State in the East, West and North directions, Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts in the South direction. Main rivers are Godavari, Penganga, Pranahita and Kadem .

Basar Temple

Situated 50 Kms from Nizamabad, Sri Gyana Saraswathi temple at Basar on the banks of river Godavari is the only temple in South India dedicated to the Goddess of learning . The legend has it that after the Mahabharata war, sage Vyas embarked on a pilgrimage in search of peace.

He reached the serene Kumaranchala hills on the banks of river Godavari and meditated and propitiated the Goddess who eventually appeared before him and granted her presence in the form of the divine trinity.

Jainath Temple

This temple is situated at Jainath, a small village, 21 Kms away from Adilabad. The temple was built in Northern style of temple architecure. The village obatained the name Jainath, because of the fact that originally it was a Jaina Centre. Annual Bhromostsavam is celebrated from karthika Sudda Astami to Bahula Saptami ( october - November ) at the local Laxmi Narayana temple which attracts a large number of devotees from the surrounding places.

Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary

Kawal is situated 50 Kms from Mancherial and 70 Kms from Nirrnal. Amidst dry deciduous teak forests is the scenic Kawal wild life sanctuary spread over an area ol 893 sg. Kms. It is home for Barking Deer, Nilagai, Indian Bison, Panther, Cheetal.
